The Great Debate: PWA vs Native Apps - who won?

Our sister company Adapptor kindly invited us along to the Perth Mobile App Developers meetup to argue the case for Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) and how they differ from Native Mobile Apps. The high level take aways were:

Progressive Web App

  • Single codebase means typically quicker and cheaper to develop

  • Easier to deploy and ship updates

  • Comparable UX to native

  • Wider range of devices supported

  • Can be bundled and distributed on native app stores

Native App

  • Better access to OS level features

  • Better support for background processing

  • Better performance for graphics / compute heavy tasks
